RELATIONSHIPS
Roger Waters / David Gilmour
In the beginning, neither Waters or Gilmour dominated the band. Syd Barrett was the unquestioned leader, lead singer, lead guitarist and writer of virtually all of the music. Waters was simply the bass player and Gilmour was not even in the band. Barrett then became unable to contribute much of anything after mental issues from heavy drug use. Gilmour replaced Barrett as lead singer, and writing duties were picked up by Waters and Gilmour, with Waters the stronger of the two. It was a cohesive relationship until the massive success of Dark Side of the Moon changed things. Beginning with Animals, Waters began totally dominating the group, even picking up the majority of lead vocals, leaving the others more and more as side men. The relationship deteriated until Waters left in 1982. He seemed to regret this move as Pink Floyd continued to sore without him, while his solo career performed below his expectations.
