Recorded in 1978. Produced by Tom Dowd. Engineered by Andy Johns.

In 1979, Rod released one of his biggest hits. It was inspired by recent rock artists disco flavoured releases, particurly the Rolling Stones and 'Miss You'. While he briefly gained a disco/pop audience, he alienated his core rock base, many who never came back. Certainly Rod was successful throughout the eighties and into the early nineties, but at a lower level then he had in the seventies. Further headaches came when he was sued by Brazilian artist Jorge Ben Jor for plagiarizing his song 'Taj Mahal'. All royalties were donated to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Years later, Rod did get some positive news, as it was ranked at #308 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. - Larry -

ROD STEWART - ROD autobiography

(Miss You was) "a rock band's take on disco, a blend that really appealed to me. And so the question was 'Can we come up with something along the lines of that?'"

CARMINE APPICE - 2001

"Rod was always the kind of guy who was always looking at the charts and seeing what was popular. Miss You by the Rolling Stones was the inspiration for Do You Think Iím Sexy. It has the same kind of feel and the same exact tempo. When we did it with the band, we did it raw. Tom Dowd, the producer and Rod wanted to make it different. The put the strings on it and made it sound more disco then it really was. Ya know what? It was #1 in ten countries. It was Rod Stewartís biggest song and it still makes big money. "

ROD STEWART - ROD autobiography

(on lawsuit) "I held my hand up straight away. Not that I'd stood in the studio and said, 'Here, I know we'll use that tune from "Taj Mahal" as the chorus. The writer lives in Brazil, so he'll never find out.' Clearly the melody had lodged itself in my memory and then resurfaced. Unconscious plagiarism, plain and simple. I handed over the royalties, again wondering whether 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' was partly cursed."
